Swecoin AB, headquartered in Stockholm, was established in 1983 as the successor company to the Sweda cash register operation in Sweden and as a distributor of print mechanisms and specialty printers. As its technical and market experience deepened, Swecoin began to design and manufacture its own printer products. Swecoin’s early growth path culminated with the acquisition in 1995 of AB Cale, a well-known Scandinavian maker of equipment for parking applications known as “pay-and-display” systems. Several years later Swecoin AB was acquired by The Metric Group AB, a privately held Scandinavian corporation involved in parking, security and access control, and other industrial applications. By the mid-1990’s, Swecoin had established itself as a leading manufacturer of direct thermal printers for unattended use such as ATMs, transactional kiosks, multimedia pay phones, and parking systems. The company’s unsurpassed knowledge and experience with self-serve applications is visible in the small footprint, durable design, and high reliability of each Swecoin printer product. All Swecoin receipt printers also include a looping presenter mechanism, which prevents the kiosk visitor from touching the receipt until it is fully printed and cut. Swecoin holds a patent on this simple but elegant technology. The Company utilizes an ISO 9001 certified factory in Sweden. Customers may contract with Swecoin for customizations such as printer brackets, unusual paper loading/feeding mechanisms, or other unique designs required by their particular applications. In 1992, Swecoin US was established to take advantage of emerging markets for unattended applications in the U.S. and Canada. Outside North America, Swecoin utilizes a combination of direct and indirect distribution channels. The Company is represented in 25 countries worldwide. In October, 1999, Swecoin re-established itself as an independent entity when several of the company’s original founders, including Tommy Wincent, a world expert on printer design, and Jon Poignant, a long-time associate of Mr. Wincent’s, acquired all of the company’s assets and intellectual property. By now, over 150,000 Swecoin thermal printers are installed in self-serve applications throughout the world. Swecoin’s client list includes many world-class corporations such as IBM, Nixdorf, Tomra, and Coinstar, plus all of the world’s major kiosk integrators and designers. |
